Sanusi Expresses Confidence On Successful E-payment System

The Central Bank Governor, Mr Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has expressed confidence that the financial sector would surmount challenges of poor infrastructure and other obstacles inhibiting the success of banks in the e-payment system in Nigeria.

The CBN governor who spoke at the International Conference on Payments System in Abuja said inspite of Nigeria’s achievement on payments system transformation, a lot of advocacy is still needed to build an integrated financial system in the country.

He noted that governments and private businesses have for too long relied on cash to pay employees and fulfill other financial obligations but with the reforms, instances of delayed payments is now a thing of the past.

He added that this could slow down the economy if not speedily tackled.

The minister of communication technology, Ms Omobola Johnson assured that the federal government is putting mechanisms in place to fully co-opt Nigerians in the rural areas into the e-payment system.

The conference was attended by government officials, stakeholders in the economy and captains of industry.
